Here at Gilstrap & Associates, we delight in featuring counselors from our Orlando office that have gone above and beyond, shown exceptional care and proven why they deserve this honor. Tell us a little about your education and professional counseling experience.
I went to the University of Florida and got my bachelors degree in Psychology. Then I went to the University of Central Florida and got my masters degree in Mental Health Counseling.
What would you consider your specialties in counseling?
I specialize in working with anxiety, perfectionism, self-esteem, and issues in adjusting to a new phase of life. I mostly work with kids, teenagers, and young adults.
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor because I love listening to people’s stories and walking with them through the pains and joys of life. I am constantly inspired by the resiliency, vulnerability, and courage I see in my clients.
What are the benefits of counseling?
I think the benefits of counseling are numerous, but the most impactful benefits are the feelings of being understood by and connected with another person. There is so much power and hope in knowing you don’t have to struggle alone.
What do you like to do for fun when you’re not counseling?
I love to spend as much time as possible with my husband, family, and friends. I love going to coffee shops, trying new restaurants, bike rides, and frequent board game nights with friends.
