Ashley Vallicott, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor #13418
RTM Certified Therapist

My specialties include self-injury, eating disorders, depression, self-worth, body image and anxiety. The population I work with most often are teenage girls and young adult women.

What is your main goal when working with a client?

My main goal when working with a client is to meet them where they are and give them a safe place to tell their story. Through telling and owning their story, it is my hope clients will experience healing and restoration in their relationships and lives.

What is your approach and what methods do you employ?

My approach to counseling is very relational and client-centered, utilizing Emotion-Focused and Intimacy Therapy. I believe the therapeutic relationship is foundational to the counseling process. I will meet my client with authenticity and empathy. We will discover a client’s relational needs and how those are or are not being met. When our relational needs go unmet, it creates a sense of aloneness, which means no one knows me or understands me. Aloneness is removed through relationships. We will also explore family dynamics and attachment. Through therapy, we will work to remove aloneness, meet relational needs and heal from past wounds.

What age group do you most often work with?

The age group I work with the most ranges from about 12 years old to 25 years old.

Are you passive or active in the session? What can a client typically expect sessions to be like while working with you?

Being passive or active in session is determined by what my client needs during each session. A client can expect to receive empathy, acceptance, accountability, support, encouragement and a safe place to process their thoughts and emotions each week. As their therapist, a client can expect that I will grieve with them in their trials and struggles as well as share in their joys and celebrations! It is truly an honor to walk alongside my clients through difficult and exciting seasons of life.

What is your background and what are your credentials?

I am Florida born and Kentucky raised! I have lived in Orlando since 2009 and love being back where it is warm year-round! I am an auntie to 10 adorable and sweet nieces and nephews! I love all things University of Kentucky, GO WILDCATS!!! I also love Disney World and Cinderella is my all-time favorite Disney Princess! In October 2016, I married my best friend and love of my life! We enjoy coffee shop dates, Disney and spending time with friends and family!

I am actively involved in my church, volunteering in the young adult ministry and the hospitality team. I've lead a girls Bible study at The First Academy for 4 years. My faith in God is the most important thing in my life. I would not be where I am or who I am today without His love, grace, mercy and favor over my life!

What is the reason you decided to get into counseling?

The experience in my life that lead me to counseling was going through a broken engagement in 2009. My experience and therapeutic relationship with my counselor was so incredibly helpful in walking me through the healing process. A little over a year into counseling, I remember sitting in the waiting room before my session and thought about pursuing counseling as a career. When my therapist and I were in session that day, she said that she thought I would make a great counselor. That was in October 2010 and it was in January 2011, I began the journey towards earning my Master’s Degree. It was through that devastating time, God revealed his calling for my life. I will never forget how my therapist cared for me and helped me in so many ways. I knew to become a therapist was the right path for me and I am so very thankful for the difficult season in my life because it shaped me and molded me into who I am today!
